UW Madison Evolution Seminar Series, Fall 2011
Andrew Gardner wins Exceptional Service Award
Kudos to Andrew Gardner, recipient of the UW-Madison Exceptional Service Award! The Service Award recognizes no more than five outstanding teaching assistants who, in addition to their regular duties, perform exceptional service related to the education mission of their departments in the form of volunteerism, committee work, mentoring, etc.
Andy has made numerous contributions to the department and university. He developed the Life Cycles Interactive Explorer, an interactive web-based learning tool to help students grasp plants’ complex life cycles. In Fall 2009 he redeveloped the plant anatomy course and semester-long lectureship. He chaired the UW-Madison Evolution Seminar Series for two years. He has mentored more than ten undergraduates. And on top of all that Andy still finds time to head the F.A.C. (Friday Afternoon Club), the Botany department’s weekly social gathering. The department is grateful for his service and dedication and congratulates Andy on this outstanding achievement!
Andy received his award in a ceremony on February 24th.
UW Madison Evolution Seminar Series, spring 2011
Today was my first presentation at Evolution Seminar Series. I teamed up with Emily Sessa, Brian Sidoti, and Evie Williams to talk about our research on ecological cladogenesis: diversification, morphological adaptation, hybridization and polyploidy, distribution modeling and more.

Tony Goldberg told me his favorite place on campus is the atrium at the Vet School. What a strange juxtaposition of objects. I got lucky with the light, too.
